  • I am the Master Pick Up Artist!

Or maybe I should have pursued a career as a waiter.  I like helping people and making them feel good about coming to spend time in my establishment.

Well, not really my establishment.  It’s wherever the Orpheus Choir happens to be performing.  I usually run the pre-paid ticket table, I really enjoy it and if say so myself, I’m darn good at it!

Last Sunday we were at Metropolitan United Church and the Orpheus along with Chorus Niagara were doing “Beethoven, Bevan and the Bard”.  Barn-burner of a concert — with a full orchestra and dramatic readings from Shakespeare by Geriant Wyn Davies — yes the lead actor from Forever Knight — the vampire cop!

Incredible performance!  Mr. Wyn Davies was magnificently Shatnerian in his thundering readings from The Tempest, Julius Ceasar and Henry V and the music by Bevan was pure THX classical!

What is really great about what the Orpheus is doing these days is how they mix choral works with other media.  They were the first in Toronto to try this and in my opinion they are still doing it the best.  Orpheus is also leading the artistic pack in showcasing works by new composers — and proving that these works are powerful, inspiring and incredibly entertaining.

And I get to make people love me by giving them their tickets to these wonderful events.  It’s like being the Cultural Chocolate salesman.
